Emily Homan was the only junior on the Academic All-Patriot League team in 2014. She participated in the Research Experience for Undergraduates at Northern Arizona University this summer, doing research on Soil Chronosequencing and Retrograde Pedogenesis on Lava Flows in the San Francisco Volcanic Field in Arizona. Homan will be presenting her research at the Geological Society of America in Vancouver. She has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every year she has been eligible, and she received the Ted and Georgia Metropolis Prize in Geology at Lafayette College’s All-College Honors Convocation, which is given to the junior or senior geology major who has exhibited high academic achievement and demonstrated enthusiasm for geology and environmental geosciences both inside and outside the classroom.

Character

Homan will serve as a team captain this season for the second time in her career. She has been a member of the Oaks Leadership Academy at Lafayette for three years, which is a comprehensive program to develop, challenge and support Lafayette student-athletes and coaches in their quests to become effective leaders in academics, athletics and life. The Oaks Leadership Academy was developed as a partnership between Lafayette and Janssen Peak Performance and provides the leadership development programming to accomplish this objective.

Community

Homan has been a peer tutor at Paxinosa Elementary School and has worked with the Special Olympics, helping out with various clinics. She served as the leader of the holiday festivities with the team at the local Manor Care and participated in the football team’s annual bone marrow drive. Homan also is a member of the student-athlete group that helps freshman on move-in day at Lafayette.

Competition

Following the 2013-14 season, she was named a member of the All-Patriot League Second Team. Homan was a three-time Patriot League Player of the Week going into her senior season, and she ranks 15th in school history in points (1,071), 11th in rebounds (614) and third in blocked shots (143) heading into her final season. She was named the 2011-12 Patriot League Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-Rookie Team and is one of five players named to the 2014-15 Preseason All-Patriot League team.
