Orrick has been a standout both on and off the court, posting a 3.76 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) during her junior year. Orrick’s goal is to secure a job in athletics administration, with main responsibilities in the coordination of sporting events. To this end, she recently served an internship with the Illinois High School Association.

Character

In the words of ISU head coach Melissa Myers, “Emily is a player that coaches love to coach. She has a great work ethic, she asks good questions and takes feedback exceptionally well, and she positively influences those around her.  She has great skill, but her ability to focus on her game while also helping her teammates be successful is what makes her a special teammate. She has a grace and calmness to her game that stabilizes those around her. She is someone that is easy and fun to play with. She also makes great decisions and sets a high standard off the court.”

Community

Orrick has been active on the Illinois State campus and in the Bloomington-Normal community. She has been active as a camp instructor at youth volleyball camps. She has volunteered with Homes of Hope, an organization providing care for adults with mental disabilities. She has also been active in Recess Buddies, a group volunteering time to work with local elementary school children. She has participated in the Easter Seals Walk with Me event, and has volunteered as part of a food drive to support the Clare House, a local food pantry. Orrick has also volunteered at the Taste of Redbird, an on-campus alumni and fan event.

Competition

Orrick appeared in all of ISU’s 32 matches and played in 118 sets as a junior. She was named the Missouri Valley Conference Libero of the Year and an All-MVC First Team selection in 2013. She ranked first on her team in digs (572) and digs per set (4.85); she ranked second on the team in assists (92), service aces (32) and service aces per set (0.27), while finishing third in assists per set (0.78).
