Classroom

During her time with the NC State Wolfpack softball team, Weiman has maintained an exemplary scholastic average. As a sport management major, she has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team and the ACC Honor Roll all three of her years in college. The honor roll awards students that have maintained a grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the entire academic year. She currently owns a 3.77 grade-point average, the highest GPA on a team of players who has completed at least two semesters of college. Weiman has also been named to the Dean’s List numerous times for her hard work in the classroom. In addition, she has been a Caterpillar Scholar-Athlete each of her years at NC State.

Character

Weiman has always displayed great character as a member of the Wolfpack softball team and was rewarded for her efforts by being named one of the team captains for the 2015 season. Her work ethic both on and off the field is second to none, and, because of it, she excels on the field and in the classroom. Head Coach Shawn Rychcik says that she is one of the most coachable players on the team and practices hard each day, and that she really wants to do whatever it takes to get better. When NC State made a coaching change following the 2012 season, Rychcik says Weiman bought in to what he wanted to do at NC State and made sure that others did as well.

Community

Even though Weiman stays very busy with softball and academics, she finds time to give back to the community and participate in community service. Activities in which she has participated include building houses for Habitat for Humanity, preparing Thanksgiving meals for those in need and donating Christmas presents around the holidays. She has also been involved with Service NC State and several other volunteer initiatives. Weiman is the type of person who always gives back and does things for others. She is passionate about working with the North Carolina Senior Games and helping with softball camps so that she can share her knowledge of the game with youth. Weiman has also gone to local elementary schools to speak with kids about the importance of academics and making the right choices and has worked at the local soup kitchen.

Competition

Over the course of her time at NC State, Weiman has become an increasingly more prominent piece of the Wolfpack team. As a sophomore, she was one of the team’s primary pitchers and led the ACC in innings pitched (323.1), wins (33), appearances (54), games started (52) and complete games (42). In spite of pitching so many innings, she did not lose her effectiveness. She finished the year with a 1.97 ERA and was tabbed the ACC’s Pitcher of the Year—the first Wolfpack player to earn the award. She was also a First-Team All-ACC selection and was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Southeast Region Second Team. Weiman was at her best in the postseason, as she led the Wolfpack to the ACC Championship and a 1-0 upset win over Florida State. For her efforts, she received the ACC Championship Most Valuable Player award. In 2014, she turned in another great season and earned First-Team All-ACC honors again. She led the conference and was tied for sixth in the NCAA with 12 complete game shutouts. Entering her senior season, Weiman had the most wins, appearances, innings pitched and complete games among active Division I pitchers. She needed just 14 wins to become the Wolfpack’s all-time leader in wins and just three more starts to make the most by any pitcher in the program’s history.
