Eric Dungey is an accounting major in the university’s prestigious Martin J. Whitman School of Management. He owns a 3.32 cumulative GPA and is scheduled to earn his bachelor’s degree in May 2019. Dungey is a two-time member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. In 2016, he was named to the ACC All-Academic Team. In addition, Dungey is a three-time ACC Honor Roll selection (min. 3.0 GPA for the academic year) and a four-time member of the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA for the semester).

Character

Throughout his career, Dungey has been a leader among Orange student-athletes. He is a past member of the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which evaluates student-athlete life at Syracuse, gives feedback on ACC/NCAA legislation, organizes events for the student-athlete body, and acts as a liaison between student-athletes and the administration.

Dungey has also been recognized for his leadership role within the football program. He was elected team captain in 2017 and has twice been selected by the coaching staff to represent the program at ACC Football Kickoff, the conference’s annual two-day media event. In addition to his leadership qualities, Dungey’s toughness and perseverance are two of his biggest attributes. That was never more evident than last season when Dungey nearly led the Orange to victory at Florida State while playing with a broken foot.

Community

Dungey is an integral part of the Syracuse University chapter of Uplifting Athletes leadership team. The group seeks to raise awareness and funding to benefit the rare-disease community. Their 2018 “Lift for Life” event, held in July, generated more than $7,000 for rare-disease research and patient-focused programs. In the four years Dungey has been involved, the Syracuse chapter has raised more than $50,000.

In addition, Dungey has made multiple school and hospital visits through the ‘Cuse Cares Community Service Program. In April 2018, Dungey assisted Maureen’s Hope Foundation to deliver Easter baskets to patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital. He is also a member of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Competition

One of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, Dungey is on the watch lists for the Maxwell Award (college football player of the year) and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (nation’s top senior quarterback).

He entered the 2018 season as the only FBS quarterback in the country with more than 6,000 career passing yards and 1,000 career rushing yards. He holds or shares 14 Syracuse records, including the career marks for passing yards per game, total offense yards per game, and most quarterback rushing touchdowns.

In 2017, Dungey set the ACC record for total offense plays per game (57.8). In addition, he ranked sixth in the FBS in total offense (343.3 ypg) and seventh in completions per game (25.0). He also became the first quarterback since 1986 to lead Syracuse in rushing. Last season, he was injured on the game’s first series but returned and passed for 278 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 109 yards and another score, in a 27-24 loss.
