Not only is Masch one of the best forwards in the West Coast Conference, but he is also one of the league’s top student-athletes. Masch holds a 3.6 cumulative GPA as a finance major in Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business. In both of his eligible seasons (sophomore and junior), the WCC honored Masch as a member of the conference All-Academic Team.  He will graduate following the fall quarter of his senior year, less than three and a half years into his college career.

Character

Masch has been an integral part of the team through his hard work and dedication.  Not every player who tries to walk on to the program makes it and not every player that makes it emerges as someone who can impact the group.  This shows such great self-belief.  As a walk-on to the team, he has managed to fill a role as an attacking player who can come off the bench and score goals and get assists.  While nearly every player like this would prefer a more glamourous starting position, Masch has been humble and supportive of the team and the coaches in fulfilling this role.  He is a great role model for the rest of his teammates as a leader on and off the field.

Community

Masch serves as the SCU Men’s Soccer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative and has been an active member for three years. He will be a key part of the men’s soccer leadership initiative helping to make decisions on community service projects, leadership development initiatives within the team and team management issues.

Competition

Masch has twice been named an All-West Coast Conference player. He was a key part of Santa Clara’s 2010 WCC championship team, tying for the team lead in goals scored. He had at least one shot in seven consecutive matches - during a 12-game stretch in 2010, in which SCU did not lose. He netted a goal in NCAA tournament play as a junior as well. Masch emerged as one of the league’s top forwards as a sophomore in 2009, scoring five times as an underclassman.
