Classroom

Pettis was the 2009 Big West Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and a two time scholar athlete. The Psychology major owns a 3.063 cumulative GPA and is expected to graduate in June 2010. He is interested in pursing a career in law.

Character

Pettis is a hard-working and competitive player who leads mostly by example but can step in and be a vocal leader as well. He is very determined to do what he can to help the team win, mentors the younger players and offers advice when asked. He has great presence on the mound and is a highly confident and self-assured student-athlete.

Community

Pettis has been involved with the community through team-sponsored events such as visiting patients at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County and working with children at UCI camps.

Competition

Pettis is a Collegiate Baseball preseason All-American, a NCBWA preseason first-team All-American, the NCBWA Stopper of the Year finalist two consecutive years, two-time Collegiate Baseball All-American and two-time All-Big West first-team. He is the Big West leader in saves with 17 and games finished with 27 and is tied for third in the conference in appearances and games in relief with 29. Is 5-2 on the mound with a 3.86 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 42 innings. In that time he walked just seven and allowed 18 earned runs. He finished the season third in the nation in saves. He has twice been named Collegiate Baseball ”Louisville Slugger” Preseason second-team All-America and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason first-team All-American two straight years.
