Character

Erica is dedicated, hard-working, and extremely passionate in pursuit of her goals. As a leader in our program, she models the type of work ethic it takes to be exceptional on a daily basis. She is well respected among her team and fellow student athletes because she believes there is no substitute for work in getting where you desire to go. Each year Erica gathers our freshmen to share with them study habits and helpful insights for being successful in a high academic atmosphere like Rice. Erica thrives in sharing wisdom, but she understands that wisdom is gained only through experience and she will never be out-prepared. She is a young woman who is excelling at the highest level by being rooted in incredible character.

Community

• DAWA (premedical society for underrepresented students): Participated as Secretary of the organization and was responsible for the public relations;
• Rice Black Student Association: Organizing seasonal events to involve and incorporate the black students at Rice;
• Rice African Student Association: Organizing African Awareness and Appreciation Events at Rice;
• Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC): Organizing a leadership group of student athletes from respective sports in order to elevate athlete quality of life;
• Athletics Peer Academic Advising (PAA) Program: Helping plan events to encourage students to explore courses, investigate academic goals and implement plans to reach those goals.
• Maestro Program at Rice University: Taught predominantly Spanish Speaking Housing and Dining faculty members computer skills.
• Ronald McDonald House: Assist in checking in families who are in Houston for medical assistance to their rooms.
• CORE: Tutored young children in a variety of academic subject and the necessary tools to become a successful student.
• USA Basketball Youth Development: Teamed up with USA basketball organization to create a basketball clinic.
• Step Forward Day: Organized basketball drills for children in boys and girls club and worked with over 300 children on their basketball skills in an under-privileged community.
