Erika Leonard was named an NFCA Academic All-America Scholar-Athlete as well as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for maintaining a 3.7 GPA or better during the 2014-15 academic year. She is an Academic All-Big Ten and a OSU Scholar-Athlete.

Character

Leonard missed the entire 2013 season after transferring and suffering a injury but was voted a captain by her teammates in 2014.

Community

Every fall, Leonard raises money for cancer research at Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital as part of the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic. Since it has started, the event has raised over $200,000. She reads to children at local elementary schools as part of the 2nd and 7 Foundation. Leonard also helped raised money for the Marking Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Cincinnati in support of her mother, a breast cancer survivor, and she participated in a music education program called “Kazoo March.”

Competition

In 2015 she was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and the NFCA All-Midwest Region Second Team. Leonard hit .414 with 60 RBI, 15 home runs and a .782 slugging percentage. She set a Big Ten record with 37 RBI in 23 conference games, and over the final 24 games of the season, she hit .512 with 53 RBI, 15 home runs, 43 hits and a 1.083 slugging percentage. In Big Ten-only games, Leonard hit .420 with 11 home runs and a .913 slugging percentage, finishing first in RBI and home runs, 12th in batting average, third in slugging percentage and 13th in hits. In a win over Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals, she set a single-game school record with 10 RBI, going 4-for-4 while hitting two grand slams.
