Fredi Knighten is an interdisciplinary studies major who is on track to graduate in the spring of 2015.

Character

Knighten has become the unquestioned leader in the locker room after initially not being comfortable with the role at the start of the 2014 season. He has also become a role model in the Jonesboro area for young Red Wolves’ fans and devotes his time to youth sports organizations in trying to help promote the game of football and good sportsmanship within the community.

Community

Knighten has assisted with many community service efforts. He helped with a tornado relief fund drive by assisting in the recovery process for the geographic regions hit by several tornadoes in the state and region; assisted with the Life Champs program, which is a football camp held in his hometown that helps kids with football and life lessons; volunteered at St. Bartholomew’s Church assisting with various programs including Back to School events); helped with the Special Olympics, issuing medals and performing various other duties; and he has been active with team community service projects at local and regional schools and hospitals.

Competition

Knighten has been named to 14 different preseason watch lists. The 2014 Go Daddy Bowl Offensive MVP, he was a 2014 first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honoree, a 2015 Preseason first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, and was ranked 15th in the nation in pass efficiency last season (138.99) as well as being 24th in total offense (4,755 yards). Knighten holds 25 top-10 school records for single-game, career and season performances and, entering 2015, was just 245 yards shy of becoming the seventh player to break 5,000 total yards. He finished 2014 ranked among the top 50 players in 12 statistical categories, leading the Sun Belt in total offense, and his 3,277 passing yards in 2014 were the third-most in school history. Knighten tossed a career-best five touchdowns in the 2015 Go Daddy Bowl against Toledo and ranks eighth in career total offense in school history.
