Gideon Betz

Gideon Betz was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in 2018. He also was chosen as the 2018 Big South Conference Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A three-time member of the Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll, he was named to the Big South Conference All-Academic Team in 2017 and 2018.

Character

A member of the Campbell University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (2018-19, 2019-20), Betz has served as team captain since his sophomore year (2017-19). He was nominated for the CAMELS LEAD group, which is a program designed for Campbell junior and senior student-athletes to help them grow in their leadership abilities within the team and across the department.

Community

Betz has been involved in volunteer and community outreach programs such as Operation INASMUCH, Freshman Move-In and Night to Shine.

Competition

Betz was named the 2019 Big South Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was chosen as the 2018 Big South Conference Tournament MVP. He is a three-time Big South all-conference team member, including a first-team selection in the last two seasons and an honorable mention nod as a freshman. A 2018 Big South All-Tournament Team choice, Betz scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the league final. He led Campbell to the 2018 Big South title and the program’s first NCAA College Cup berth in 11 years. He was also named to the 2016 Big South Conference All-Freshman Team.
