Classroom

Barstad boasts a 3.11 cumulative GPA in marketing with a minor in economics. She most recently earned a 3.42 GPA this past fall. Barstad is a member of the American Marketing Association. She is in line to graduate in December of 2012.

Character

Barstad’s approach to life and softball is to set goals that aren’t always easy to attain and then going after them and taking obstacles head on. She feels that she is serving as a role model to teammate Myranda McDonald even though in direct competition on the field. Barstad tries to impress on her fellow seniors to realize that being a senior does not mean they have all of the answers and to learn from the underclassmen as well. This past semester Barstad assisted incoming freshmen teammates on time management and adapting to being a Division I student-athlete.

Community

Barstad participated in cross-promotional efforts at football games canned food drives. She works with softball camps on campus and assists her hometown high school softball team during summer and breaks. She exceeds the required community service with work at home in Oregon.

Competition

Barstad is the first Western Michigan softball player to earn MAC Player of the Year (2011). She was named First Team All-MAC and to the MAC All-Tournament Team in 2011 as well. Her .373 batting average in 2011 ranks second all-time at WMU and her 62 hits last season ranks fifth in program history. Barstad’s 10 career home runs rank fifth as well. She earned NFCA All-Region honors in 2011.
