Classroom

Not only is Rogers a leader on the field for the Gators, but her work in the classroom speaks for itself. An Event Management major at UF, Rogers boasts a 3.12 cumulative GPA and started her senior year off right with a 3.69 GPA in the fall of 2013 prior to entering her final campaign donning the Orange and Blue. Rogers was named to the 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll and will be completing a field experience class this spring, followed by an internship in the field next fall to complete her degree at UF in December of 2014.

Character

Rogers has the chance to become UF’s first four-time softball All-American after garnering All-America status as a freshman, sophomore and junior, but you wouldn’t know Rogers’ extensive accolades from talking to her or watching her work as the leader of the Gator squad. Described as a workhorse, head coach Tim Walton also describes Hannah as a blue-collar athlete that is the first one in the door and the last one to leave practice each day – she comes in, works hard at her job and leaves it all out on the field. One of Rogers’ best characteristics is her even-keeled persona, whether she’s in the pitching circle or around her teammates, Rogers always has a calming presence, which serves her well as a leader by example for the Florida club. After guiding the Gators to the 2011 National Championship Series as a freshman, and to the WCWS again in 2013, there isn’t much that rattles the Gator ace. Her contagious personality and caring nature makes her a well-respected teammate and highly regarded Florida student-athlete.

Community

One of the most important initiatives for the Florida Softball program is a presence in the community – and the Gators fulfill the expectation weekly through a number of service projects. One of Rogers’ – and the Gators’ – favorite past times is spending time with Heather Braswell, an adopted member of the Gator softball team through Friends of Jaclyn. FoJ pairs children with brain tumors with athletic teams for both support and awareness. Heather joined the Gators in 2010 and continues to be a part of the team while battling cancer as a mainstay in the Gators dugout and locker room on game day. Florida’s impact on Braswell became a local story in the fall when after 5½ years of being cancer-free, Heather is fighting for her life again after doctors found another brain tumor. Excerpt from the Gainesville Sun: “There was no softball game that day, but Heather and her mom came to the stadium to drop off orange-and-blue shirts Heather designed for the team. The back of the shirts say ‘Cancer messed with the wrong girl.’” The team crafted a support video for Braswell, circulated on YouTube. This year for Christmas, instead of a team gift exchange, Rogers and teammates donated a children’s toy to Toys for Tots, which Coach Walton delivered. Though UF’s Goodwill Gators program, Rogers and the Gators participate in a number of community outreach programs including Gator Tracks (shoes for needy children), Climb for Cancer (field day event with cancer patients) and much more.

Competition

A three-time All-American, Rogers is one of just three players in school history to earn three All-America honors for UF, and the righty has the chance to become UF’s first four-time All-American in 2014. She owns a career record of 97-23 with a 1.64 ERA and 666 strikeouts in 764.2 innings pitched thus far at Florida. Rogers has been named to the NFCA All-Southeast Region First Team all three years as a Gator, while picking up NFCA All-America Second Team accolades in 2011 & 2012 before her All-America First Team nod in 2013. Rogers was a top-25 finalist for USA Softball’s Player of the Year Award in 2012 and 2013 and kicks off the 2014 campaign on the Top-50 Watch List. She was invited to the 2013 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp last summer. A three-time All-SEC selection 2011-13, Rogers additionally picked up SEC All-Defensive Team accolades in 2011 & 2012 her freshman and sophomore seasons in addition to Freshman All-SEC honors her first year on campus. Rogers owns a 33-17 record against top-25 opponents in her three-year career thus far, is just three career wins shy of the 100-victory mark, and will be just the second Gator to eclipse 100 career wins at Florida. Entering her senior year, Rogers has two no-hitters, five career solo one-hitters (one her freshman year, two each her sophomore and junior years) and owns three combined one-hitters (one each year of her Gator career) and a combined perfect game her junior season.
