Hayley Farrer carries a 3.35 cumulative GPA and has posted two 4.0 semesters in the past three. She was named to the dean’s list in Spring 2015 and Spring 2016 and earned Big Sky All-Academic honors in January 2016.

Character

Farrer has been voted team captain two straight seasons by her teammates, and she has acted as the primary voice of the team, separate from captain responsibilities, for the majority of her five-year career. Farrer treats members of the media, athletics personnel and peers with the highest level of respect. She is punctual and well-spoken with a high level of personal ethics, and she takes her responsibility as captain seriously. She leads by example and has become more vocal as her role has demanded it. Farrer is the epitome of a team player. She consistently serves and supports her coaching staff and teammates in any way that she can.

Community

Farrer is an active member of the Pocatello community. She has served as a volunteer for the Bengal Triathlon for several years including helping to set up the event as well as directing participants and fellow volunteers. Farrer also has been part of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day for multiple years, and she takes part in ISU volleyball’s community activity of reading to local elementary school students throughout the school year. She is an active member of the Student Activities Board as well as an active member of ISU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She participates in the annual Trunk or Treat event, hosted by SAAC, every October and helps to pass out candy to local children. Farrer has also been active in helping to plan and run ISU’s Campus Family Day.

Competition

Farrer has helped ISU to three-straight 20-win seasons. She currently ranks 6th in assists in ISU history with 3,043, and has recorded over 1,200 assists in each of the last two seasons. Leading up to her nomination, she is only one dig shy of the 1,000 dig mark. Farrer was named to the 2015 Big Sky First Team and All-Tournament Team, and was also named to the Boise State Invitational and Wyoming Invitational all-tournament teams. Farrer was a 2014 Big Sky All-Tournament Team selection and is a two-time Big Sky Player of the Week. So far this season, she is averaging 10.12 assists (6th in Big Sky) and 2.98 digs per set. She also ranks ninth in service aces per set at 0.33. She has helped ISU to a 5-8 record during a tough nonconference schedule that has featured two Power 5 conference schools and one top 10 program.
