Miles was a First-Team Capital One Academic All-District selection in 2012, and she’s also a two-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete (2011-12) and a three-time member of the Mountain West Spring All-Academic team (2011-12, 14).

Character

From Head Coach Kathy Van Wyk: “Hayley is a leader in all aspects of the word. She’s a hard worker, disciplined, and she demands the best of herself and those around her. She is willing to do whatever the team needs. Her teammates have the utmost respect for her.”

Miles overcame a devastating head injury (broken nose, bad concussion) in a freak weight room accident before the 2013 season. She was forced to redshirt and ultimately drop out of school for the semester. She came back to play last year for her junior season. Miles was also a winner of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Award in 2014, which recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field and demonstrated a record of service to the campus or the community. In order to be recognized, students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher through the fall of 2013, completed one full academic year at the nominating institution, be enrolled for the fall term of the academic year being nominated, be an active member of an intercollegiate athletic team during the 2013-14 year and have a record of campus or community service.

Community

Hayley Miles has been one of the most active participants in community service, not just with the softball team, but the entire SDSU athletic department. Over her career, she has done Shop with a Jock, the Color Run (benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County), walked in the MLK Parade in San Diego and participated in the Habitat for Humanity build.

Competition

Miles has been arguably SDSU’s best player of all-time, currently holding school records in on-base percentage, OPS percentage and doubles, while ranking second in batting average and slugging percentage and third in home runs, walks and runs scored through three years.
