Classroom

Berger will earn a degree in economics in the spring of 2014, in addition to completing the pre-medical track at Princeton. He maintains a GPA of 3.51. He took the MCAT exam in the summer of 2013, scoring in the 98th percentile. He has been a member of the ECAC Hockey all-academic team in each of his years at Princeton. Berger has spent extensive time shadowing with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Anthony Berni in St. Louis, Mo.

Character

Berger was selected as team captain for both his junior and senior year. He is a two-time ECAC Hockey Scholar-Athlete finalist, and received the 1941 Championship Trophy after his junior season. Berger took the lead on the hockey segment of Communiversity, an annual cultural event in the community. Outside of hockey, Berger is active in golf and tennis. He serves as Vice President of the Varsity Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Additionally, he advises fellow pre-med athletes at Princeton as a Jock Docs Mentor.

Community

Berger volunteers with the Hockey Players 4 Kids (HP4K) organization, which involves helping to organize a reading program at a local elementary school, assisting in youth hockey practices and other various events. He participated in the Weapons of Mass Construction event through the University for the last two years, painting a local YMCA and aiding those on the Jersey Shore afflicted by Hurricane Sandy. Berger volunteers at the Center for Survivors of Torture and War Trauma in St. Louis. He has worked with Teams for Toys to collect and distribute toys for kids the last two years. With his hockey team, Berger has hosted the Mercer Bulldogs Special Hockey, a local team of autistic children, bringing them to Hobey Baker Rink and skating with them for an afternoon. Additionally they’ve held clinics at the Fox Hunt Club in North Jersey.

Competition

A two-year captain, Berger has played in 114 career games, more games than any active Princeton player. He has played in every single game since arriving at Princeton. In his career he’s totaled 50 points on 19 goals and 31 assists. This season Berger has tallied seven points on four goals, including two power-play and one short-handed, and three assists. As a junior he had 12 points on nine goals and three assists. As a sophomore, Berger finished second on the team in scoring with 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists. Six of his goals came from special teams. He also recorded six multiple-point games and had two three-game scoring streaks that season. He was named the ECAC Player of the Week on Dec. 9, 2011 after a five-point weekend at RPI & Union. As a freshman, Berger collected nine points on two goals and seven assists. Outside of Princeton hockey, Berger has been invited to two NHL Development Camps in the last two years, with the Ottawa Senators and the New Jersey Devils.
