Classroom

Kalin graduated with her undergraduate degree in Movement and Exercise Science: Sport Psychology in December 2010 with a 4.0 GPA. She graduated “Summa Cum Laude”, was on the Dean’s List from 2007 to 2010 and was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars from 2008 to 2010. She is currently working on her masters in Kinesiology and Sport Psychology and plans to defend her thesis in December 2012 or May 2013. Kalin currently has a 4.0 GPA and has been on the Dean’s List since the spring of 2011. She is the graduate assistant for the Sport Psychology department at the UNI School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services. She was an Academic All-American and the MVC Scholar Athlete of the year in 2011.

Character

Kalin has had to overcome two medical redshirt seasons during her time at UNI. Due to her love of the game and competition, she has been able to overcome both. She had to sit out the 2008-2009 season with an ankle injury, but returned to lead the team during the 2009-2010 season and started all 33 games. She was granted a sixth year of eligibility after she tore her ACL before the start of the 2011-2012 season, but is back this year for her senior season.

Community

Kalin is an active member and the MVC representative for the NCAA Division I National Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is also an active member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Issues Committee. Kalin was the UNI Co-President of the SAAC from the spring of 2010 to the spring of 2012 and is a member of the UNI Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Council and the NCAA Recertification Steering Committee. She was a Big Sister for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa program from September 2010 to May 2011. Kalin was a volunteer at the Global Forum for Physical Education Pedagogy in the Grundy Center in Iowa in May of 2010. She also volunteered with Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, House of Hope, CharacterCounts, the Special Olympics, Camp Embracing Memories and Just Read during her collegiate career. Kalin was also given the MVC/State Farm Good Neighbor Award in the winter of 2010 and 2011.

Competition

Kalin has been the team co-captain since the spring of 2008. She was the MVC Jackie Stiles Player of the Year and MVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2011. Kalin was a first team All-MVC selection in 2010 and 2011 and was named to the All-American team by the Jewish Sports Review in 2010 and 2011. She was second team All-MVC, MVC Freshman of the Year and MVC All-Freshman team in 2008. She helped the Panthers to their first ever NCAA Tournament berth, MVC tournament championship, MVC regular season championship and a school record 27 wins. She is also on track to be the career leader in scoring in UNI history.
