Jake McCulloch is a dedicated student-athlete who carries a 3.5 cumulative GPA while working toward a BS in applied economics and management in Cornell’s SC Johnson School of Business. He was named to the Dean’s List in the Spring of 2017 and the Spring of 2018. During the past two summers he has held prestigious internships at the Marwood Group (2018) and with CJM Wealth Management (2017).

Character

McCulloch is an exemplary leader for the Big Red men’s lacrosse squad, serving as team captain for the 2018-19 academic year. For the past four years, he’s also been a member of the Big Red Leadership Institute, a group that meets four times a year to discuss how student-athletes can become better leaders and teammates. McCulloch is also a member of the Red Key Athlete Honor Society. Membership in the society is limited to upperclassmen who have been nominated by their head coach, displayed tremendous leadership, exhibited integrity and responsibility within their varsity program, shown a commitment to academics and taken part in community service.

Community

McCulloch’s commitment to community service is outstanding. He is involved in numerous projects, typically taking a leadership role. He is constantly involved with a variety of community service projects through the Big Red men’s lacrosse team and Red Key Honor Society. Specifically, McCulloch serves as the team’s coordinator for the Big Red Readers and the Big Red Mentors. Big Red Readers is a program that promotes literacy by bringing members of the Cornell men’s lacrosse team into one of the local elementary schools to read to the students for an hour each week. Similarly, the Big Red Mentors visit a local kindergarten once a to promote important values like teamwork and having a strong work ethic.

Competition

An Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse Media All-American and a second-team All-Ivy selection in 2018, McCulloch was named a preseason All-American prior to the 2019 campaign. He was a Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List selection during a junior campaign in which he was a part of the third-highest scoring first offensive midfield unit in the nation. He was an integral part of a Big Red’s 2018 Ivy League Tournament title as the team advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals. A two year starter, McCulloch has ranked fourth on the team in goals in each of the past two seasons. He was also fourth on the team in assists (15) and points (42) a year ago, both of which were career highs.
