Character

From head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch: “Jamie is our “go to” for making recruits feel welcome. She is a complete person – not just a volleyball player, so she can talk with recruits about FCA, volunteer work, coming from a small town and making friends.  She grew up on a farm, bailed a lot of hay in her day, so she has taken that same work ethic into her studies and athletics.  She is very humble and giving, but yet incredibly competitive too.”

From fellow senior Alison Landwehr: “She leads by example in matches with her play.  When Jamie gets “hot” she can take over a match and help physically but also helps our team emotion by firing up other players on the court.  She has done this several times in her career. Jamie also works hard.  Even if she is hurting, Jamie finds a way to give a drill, a point, or an important match everything she has.”

Community

Straube has participated as a volunteer in the following community service projects: City of Ames VB clinic, District track meet, nursing home appearance, kids clinic, Dance Marathon fashion show, flood recovery, children’s hospital visit, One Heart Equestrian Therapy Volunteer, On With Life Brain/Spinal Cord Injury Rehab Clinic Volunteer, guest speaker for the ISU Men’s Coffee Club.

Competition

Straube is a two-time AVCA All-America honorable mention, two-time AVCA All-Region, two-time First Team All-Big 12 and 2009 All-Big 12 Freshman Team (unanimous selection).
