Classroom

As a kinesiology major, Janey Goodman has been a staple on the dean’s list throughout her collegiate career and is a two-time CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award recipient. Goodman closed her breakout junior season earning the JMU Athletics Director Scholar-Athlete Award, recognizing Goodman’s success on the court and in the classroom.

Character

Goodman is the epitome of a teammate and has been the outspoken leader of the Dukes for the last two seasons. The senior is the first to mention trading away any individual accolades in exchange to helping lead her team to a conference title. In both victory and defeat, Goodman is consistently smiling and giving credit to her teammates for the individual successes she achieved over her career.

Community

With her teammates, Goodman has been involved with several service projects. The team has been involved with Day with the Dukes, which is an annual event that allows Special Olympians to partake in activities with JMU student-athletes. Goodman and the Dukes often tie in matches throughout the year to raise awareness and donations for community projects. This season the Dukes are working with Go For the Goal to organize a Lace Up For Pediatric Cancer Awareness match.

Competition

Goodman has solidified herself as one of the most prolific Dukes in program history. She has led the Dukes to three CAA tournament appearances, reaching the semifinals on two occasions. The reigning CAA Player of the Year has racked up four player of the week honors and is a three-time All-CAA selection on her career. Goodman holds the JMU single-season record for attempts, while ranking in the top 10 in single-season kills and kill average. The right side hitter currently ranks eighth all-time in block assists, third (tie) in kill average and fifth in kills, and is on pace to finish her senior year with the second-most kills in a single season.
