Classroom

Freeman has a 3.33 cumulative GPA in sociology and posted a perfect 4.00 in fall of 2007 course work. He was named to the Big 12 All-Academic second team in spring of 2007 and is a three-time selection to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Character

A self-starter who understands the importance of academics and has been able to find that unique balance between academics and athletics. He is an excellent role model for the younger players, Jarod knows what the goals are and understands the effort needed to reach those goals. He is very proactive, whether it is with his involvement in the community, his academic pursuits or his athletic career. He is industrious and a good example of what it means to be a student and an athlete.

Community

One of the most active student-athletes on the Sooner campus Freeman currently serves as a volunteer at Kennedy Elementary School in Norman and has also served as a volunteer reader at Truman Elementary in Norman. He is very active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has been a speaker at Oklahoma City metro area FCA meetings for the last four years as well as serving as an FCA Huddle Leader at Whittier Middle School and as a counselor at the FCA Camp WOW. He went on a mission/baseball trip to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2007 and has helped with the Heupel Foundation Winter Holidays Canned Food drive for two years. Freeman also worked with his teammates at the Jacob’s Ladder Boys Ranch and Miracle League games for the last four years.

Competition

Freeman has played in 48 games as a Sooner heading into his final year and has a career batting average of .324 and a slugging percentage of .392. Has scored nine runs and has 11 RBIs. Is coming off a season in which he established three career-best marks – hits in a game (3); RBIs in a game (3) and consecutive games with a hit (3).
