Classroom

A 2013 Capital One Academic All-District selection and First-Team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete, Spivey holds a 3.761 cumulative GPA in biological sciences. The senior second baseman has received early acceptance into a physician assistant master’s program and will pursue that upon graduation in May. The senior has also been named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and received the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award.

Character

An anchor in the middle of the field and in the middle of the lineup, the senior captain is a vocal leader on and off the field.  Through tireless work with the coaching staff, Spivey reworked her swing, throw and defensive mechanics to become one of the top offensive-producers in the Missouri Valley Conference and a wall in the infield for the Salukis. The hardworking and even-keeled nature of Spivey makes her an exceptional role model to the underclassmen and captain to the team.

Community

Spivey has been active in the southern Illinois community participating in the MVC and State Farm “Just Read” program. The senior reads to elementary school children and encourages reading outside the classroom. The senior also participated in “Natalie’s Toy Drive”, an annual holiday toy drive benefiting pediatric cancer patients at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Spivey also has participated in Parrish Elementary Haunted House, Title IX Anniversary Celebration, as well as National Girls and Women in Sports Day events along with the SIU Athletics peer-mentor program and the Women’s Inter-sport Network (WIN) yearly events.

Competition

A First-Team Missouri Valley Conference selection, Spivey recorded 44 RBI’s in 2013 to lead the Missouri Valley Conference, which ties for sixth in SIU history. She also led SIU with 12 multi-RBI games and ranked second in the MVC with 11 homeruns, which is tied for seventh in school history. In 2013, Spivey ranked second on the team and fifth in the MVC with 38 runs scored which ranks ninth in SIU history. Spivey currently has 28 career homeruns which ranks fourth all-time in SIU history. In addition, the senior is on pace to enter the top-ten all-time at SIU in hits, doubles, RBI’s, at-bats and runs scored.
