LSSU coach Jim Roque said after Jakaitis was named CCHA/RBC Player of the Month for December 2006…“He’s even a better person than he is a goalie.” Jakaitis was given an honor rarely afforded to goaltenders – he was named the Lakers’ assistant captain in 2006-07 due to his character and leadership abilities.

Jakaitis has been involved in a number of community projects, the most-notable being the Relay for Life (he ran on the track dressed up as Britney Spears last summer) and he is a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club of Chippewa County. He has done PSAs for www.volunteer.org. He has also been active in a variety of team community service projects, including a spaghetti supper for the United Way and bell ringing for the Salvation Army.
