Classroom

Studying on the health and human services track of the human and organizational development major at Vanderbilt’s prestigious Peabody College, Mooney is preparing herself for a career in a direct service profession. Mooney boasts a GPA above 3.0 and was named to the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll in 2009. Additionally, she was named Vanderbilt’s Student-Athlete of the Month in January of 2009.

Character

Mooney spent the summer prior to her senior season as an intern with the Tennessee Department of Health’s Division of Minority Health and Disparity Elimination, which engages in projects providing essential leadership to address major public health needs. Mooney’s basketball career began with the Charles Davis Foundation, which gives inner city youth positive role models to build character and self esteem. She is now a mentor within the program.

Community

The only Nashville native on the Commodores’ roster, Mooney is very active in making a difference in the community where she grew up. Mooney has organized a number of trips to local schools to talk with children on issues ranging from healthy eating habits to the importance of staying in school. Mooney has also been extremely visible at events such as the Kidney Walk and the Buddy Walk. A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Mooney has been a part of numerous department-wide initiatives like the annual holiday party for Ross Elementary students.

Competition

After being named the Southeastern Conference Sixth Woman of the Year in 2008, Mooney started 20 games in 2009 and averaged 7.1 points per contest. An explosive athlete who can take over a game offensively or defensively, Mooney has helped the Commodores win a pair of SEC Tournament championships (2007, 2009) and advance to the Sweet 16 in each of the past two seasons.
