Character

Brown has displayed great character throughout her time on campus, despite three rough seasons to start her career. The Retrievers had combined for just one win in Brown’s first two campaigns on campus and hired a new coach in the offseason prior to her junior campaign. Despite poor results, Brown maintained a positive attitude about her chance to play Division I soccer. Brown bought in to first-year head coach Leslie Wray’s philosophy and worked hard to be an expected focal point of the Retrievers’ offense during her junior campaign, but just two games in, Brown went down with a season-ending torn ACL. Brown remained on the sideline throughout the season, cheering on her teammates to a two-win season. Despite coming back and being named a captain for her red-shirt junior season, Brown did not get back her starting role right away. Brown worked her way back into the starting role and registered her first collegiate goal seven games in. The game-winner was her first of three-straight game-winners that helped to ignite the Retrievers to an historic season. Brown went on to rank second on the team in goals and garnered numerous awards throughout the year, all the while being humble and honored to be a part of the team’s and the school’s success. Named a co-captain of the 2014 squad.
