Jimmy Schuldt is a three-time Academic All-NCHC selection and was named an NCHC Scholar-Athlete Award winner (3.7 GPA or higher) in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He is a finance major at SCSU.

Character

Schuldt is the first-ever three-time team captain in the history of SCSU men’s hockey during the team’s Division I era. He is a respected team leader on the ice and in the locker room. A much sought after prospective pro player, Schuldt opted to return for his senior campaign after earning All-America and Hobey Baker Top 10 status in 2017-18.

He is a team-first leader who was the driving force behind SCSU’s NCHC regular season championship in 2017-18 and has played a key role in helping SCSU transition to a new head coach in 2018-19, after the departure of previous Head Coach Bob Motzko at end of the 2017-18 season.

Schuldt’s presence on team has helped the Huskies earn a top five ranking in the latest NCAA DI team poll as of nomination time. An key example of his character is when he was asked to provide information for a potential nomination for the Hockey Humanitarian Award in 2018-19. Schuldt deferred and strongly suggested fellow teammate Jacob Benson as a better candidate for the team in 2018-19.

As of nomination time, he had played in 117 consecutive games during his college career, never missing a game in three years.

Community

Schuldt has participated in several events within the community including the following causes and events: volunteered with the Granite City FrostBite, the local Special Olympics floor hockey team; participated in the 2017 Special Olympics Polar Plunge; raised $250 for special Olympics MN; volunteered at Madison Elementary (St. Cloud) with 5th graders with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program; read books to classes at Talahi Elementary; participated annually in SCSU’s Husky Hauler program. which helps incoming students move into the campus residence halls; and participated annually in the Skate with the Huskies community outreach event.

At home during the summer, Schuldt has volunteered as a coach for the Dynomite Hockey Program, which is a hockey program for inner-city kids who can’t afford to play hockey. Prior to his arrival at SCSU, he volunteered often with the Special Olympics floor hockey team in Omaha in juniors and worked at the Ronald McDonald House where he would make dinner for sick kids and their families.

Competition

Schuldt is a 2018 Hobey Baker Award Top 10 finalist, a 2018 AHCA All-America First Team West selection, a 2018 All-NCHC First Team honoree, a member of the 2018 All-USCHO.com team and the 2018 All-CHN Team. He also has earned 2018-19 Preseason All-NCHC team honors, 2017 All-NCHC Honorable Mention honors and a spot on both the 2016 All-NCHC Rookie Team and the 2016 All-CHN Rookie Team.

Schuldt scored 10 goals, 28 assists and 38 points in 2017-18 along with eight power play goals. In his first three years at SCSU, he amassed 28 goals, 55 assists and 83 points. Schuldt tallied 84 blocked shots on defense in 2017-18 and also charted a +18 on the plus/minus. As of nomination time, he had played in 117 consecutive games during his college career, never missing a game.

In the summer of 2018, he attended the Las Vegas Golden Knights (NHL) prospect camp.
