Character

Joe has tremendous character, and it can be seen in his completing his bachelor’s degree in just over three years, along with the team’s success on the court. Joe earned his bachelor’s degree in August of 2013, prior to the start of his senior season, which shows his tireless work ethic. His teamwork and work ethic also is seen on the court with the success the Tigers have enjoyed during his career. Memphis has an 82-24 record in his three seasons, including two conference regular-season titles and three league tournament crowns. The Tigers also have made three NCAA Tournament appearances during his career.

Community

In his time as a student-athlete, Joe has been involved in community activities in Memphis and its surrounding communities. This past summer, Joe helped with the building of a children’s playground at Hanley Elementary School in his neighborhood of Orange Mound. He also has given numerous talks at schools and churches to youth about focusing on their schoolwork and staying positive in pursuit of their dreams. Joe has read books to schoolchildren at several elementary schools around the city of Memphis. He’s also participated in the Tigers’ one-day “day camp” for Special Olympians the past three years.
