Classroom

Joe earned his degree in Business Administration in June of 2008 and this year he is working toward his masters in Public Administration. His undergraduate grade point average was 3.04. and his graduate GPA is 3.44. He is a two-time member of the America East Academic Honor Roll and a two-time member of the America East All-Academic Team that combines athletics and academics.

Character

Elected a team captain for three straight seasons, Joe is one of the team’s hardest workers. He won the Vermont’s Keith Cooper Award in 2006 given to the pitcher who has made the greatest contribution to the program on and off the field.  He provides mature leadership for a young team that is made up mostly of freshmen and sophomores.

Community

Joe has been involved with several of the team’s annual community service projects including assisting with the Ronald McDonald House Auction in Burlington, Vt. and the team’s annual blood drive at the Northern New England Red Cross. He also represented UVM student-athletes at the NCAA Regional Student-Athlete Leadership meetings in 2006-07.

Competition

Joe has earned all-conference honors each of his first three seasons: All-Rookie as a freshman in 2005; first-team all-conference in 2006 as Vermont won the America East Regular Season Championship and first-team honors again in 2008. He was named the America East Pitcher of the Year in 2008 and was a first team All-New England selection.  He led the America East with a 2.51 ERA in 2008 and led the loop with 84 strikeouts in 2006. Named to the 2009 Preseason Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Award Watch List, Joe missed all of the 2007 campaign with an injury but bounced back in the summer to earn a spot in the NECBL All-Star Game.
