Jordan Houtby

Houtby is a three-time member of the UDM Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. He has a 3.175 GPA while majoring in Business.

Character

Coach Holtz on Houtby:
“Jordan was not highly recruited out of high school and wanted to prove that he could play with the best. He has worked extremely hard both on and off the field. He was a leader in our service project this fall at Hales school in Chicago and he is a person that everyone on the team looks up to.  At the end of the game when we need the ball he will be on the field.

Community

Houtby led the Titans in performing the Playing for Peace Catholic Lacrosse Showcase community service project, held at Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago. After the fall scrimmages, the Titan student-athletes and coaches put on a free lacrosse clinic for all kids in the 8th grade or younger. The children learned some of the basic skills of the game in the clinic, conducted right on the field. While certain student-athletes were working the clinic, the rest of the teams took to a community service project involving the up-keeping of the local high school. All three Catholic Universities there came together to help clean, paint and perform general projects for the school in conjunction with the Playing For Peace motto. He has also been involved in the Titans’ one million push-up challenge that help send some proceeds to the HEADstrong Foundation, as well as UDM’s Cardio for a Cause that has raised money for outside charities. During his time, Houtby and the lacrosse team also have participated in Habitat for Humanity.

Competition

Houtby garnered preseason Honorable Mention All-American and All-Conference honors by Inside Lacrosse entering his senior year. He is a two-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) LSM of the Year who has ranked among the nation’s leaders in caused turnovers since he has arrived in the Motor City, including ranking second as a sophomore (3.25) and junior (2.53). He was also 11th as a sophomore corralling 6.06 ground balls per game. He enters his senior year as the NCAA Division I active career leader in caused turnovers with 123, while ranking ninth among active players with 216 ground balls. Houtby has been part of a Titan defensive effort that has led the country in caused turnovers in the last two seasons. As a sophomore, he was tabbed Second Team All-MAAC. Offensively, he has nine points on six goals and three assists, including a memorable game-winner as his fourth-period tally against Marist was the difference in the Titans’ 9-8 victory in the MAAC Semifinals in 2010, propelling the red, white and blue to its first MAAC Championship appearance. Just this past summer, Houtby was selected to play for Team Canada against Team USA in the ‘Duel in Denver’ in front of 4,583 fans at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
