Classroom

As a university studies major, Jordan Jones is pursuing a degree with a leadership studies concentration and minors in communications and sociology. She graduated this December and plans to work on obtaining her teacher certification. Last spring Jones was a member of the AD Honor Roll for her work in the classroom, and her effort and example to younger student-athletes can be seen in the amount of time she spends in the Nye Academic Center.

Character

Jones’ personality is contagious. She is always ready with a smile and a listening ear and is a fan favorite and a team captain. Her leadership goes beyond the court as she has been an ambassador for the university and athletics department since her arrival on campus. As a fierce competitor, Jones also has the unique ability to understand when patience and compassion are needed. Her team-first attitude makes her the perfect point guard as she includes everyone and is able to make them shine. An injury late last season sidelined Jones during the team’s tournament run, but she remained a steadfast and vocal leader from the sidelines. She dealt with the challenge and has returned even stronger this year. Jones exemplifies Texas A&M’s core values of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect and selfless service.

Community

Jordan Jones has been a consistent volunteer at Bonham Elementary throughout her career. During her weekly visits, she spends time reading and explaining the importance of education to local children. She has also volunteered in Big Event, a university-wide community outreach program that allows students to give back to the local community that supports them while they are in college. Through Big Event, students volunteer to paint and do other maintenance work for local residents. Jones also participated in TAMU BUILD last October and helped build medical units to send to South America. Her efforts have been recognized on the conference level as she was a member of the SEC Community Service Team.

Competition

Jordan Jones is only the second two-time winner of the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year award in league history and was an AP All-American despite missing the last five games of Texas A&M’s season in 2014-15. Jones holds the Texas A&M single-season assist record with 261 in 2013-14 and ranks fourth on A&M’s career assist list entering 2015-16. Jones has ranked in the Top 10 nationally in assists per game in each of the past two seasons and posted 16 double-digit assist games in her first three seasons as an Aggie. A two-time SEC All-Defensive Team selection, Jones has ranked in the top 10 of the SEC in assists in her past two seasons and has two of the top nine single-season assist marks in A&M history and three of the top 11 single-game assist marks in A&M history. One of A&M’s premier clutch defenders, she forced big turnovers late in games that led to A&M victories against LSU, South Carolina and Georgia in 2014. Jones had the third triple-double in Texas A&M history on Feb. 27, 2014, vs. Arkansas. She averaged 11.0 points per game against the AP Top 25 in 2014-15.
