Community

Kuhlman has been part of a Teen Mentoring Program. Lifeteen is a teenage youth group located in Huntersville, NC, which focuses on guiding students through the high school years. Off and on during his time at Davidson, he has acted as a “core leader,” which entails leading small group discussions and mentoring of teenage students. Occasionally, he acts as a guest speaker at local middle schools and youth groups. He is also a participant in Buzzkill- a community service event sponsored by the Davidson community and the Davidson men’s basketball program. Each year, the basketball team puts on a benefit dinner and a 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament to raise money and awareness for the prevention of malaria in Africa. The event was started by former Davidson basketball player, Bryant Barr. Kuhlman has been a volunteer at Camp Promise- a weeklong summer camp in Jacksonville, FL for young adults with severe mental and physical handicaps. Each camper is paired with a volunteer, who spends the week caring for and entertaining the camper. He has participated in the Access to Success Fundraiser- another community service event that the men’s basketball team participates in. It involves an annual 5K run and auction. A2S is a non-profit organization that seeks to “support underprivileged youth through athletic, educational and spiritual programs,” founded by former Davidson basketball player, Andrew Lovedale. As a team, Kuhlman also participates in various Davidson community activities, such as “National Walk to School Day” to encourage proper diet and exercise in youth or volunteering to read/speak at local elementary schools.

Competition

Kuhlman was the 2010 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year. He earned Mid-Major Freshman All-America honors in 2010 and was a SoCon All-Tournament selection in 2012. He is one of four team captains. He enters the season tied for 27th at Davidson in career scoring (1,173) and 15th in career assists (300). He joins Stephen Curry as the only two players in school history to tally over 1,000 career points, 400 rebounds and 300 assists. His career 3-point percentage (.370) currently ranks 9th in the Wildcat record book.
