Classroom

During her time with the NC State Wolfpack, Julia Brown has maintained an exemplary scholastic average. As a business administration major, she has been named to the ACC Honor Roll all three of her years in college. The honor roll awards students that have maintained a grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the entire academic year. Last season, she was selected by CoSIDA to the Capital One Academic All-District Team. She is also an All-ACC Academic Team selection and has helped the team garner the department’s Governor Cup as the NC State team with the highest GPA. Brown owns a 3.586 GPA.

Character

Brown has always displayed great character as a member of the Wolfpack volleyball team and was rewarded for her efforts by being named one of the team captains for the 2017 season. Her work ethic both on and off the court is second to none, and because of it she excels on the court and in the classroom. Coach Hampton-Keith says that she is joy to coach and will do whatever is needed to help the team. She also said that she has always carried herself in a way that stands out from the crowd and she has never had an issue with the senior.

Community

Even though Brown stays very busy with volleyball and academics, she finds time to give back to the community and participate in community service. Activities that she has participated include Habitat for Humanity, preparing Thanksgiving meals for those in need and donating Christmas presents around the holidays. She also has been involved with Service NC State and several other volunteer initiatives. Brown is the type to always give back and do something for others. She and her dad recently drove a bus full of supplies from North Carolina to Guatemala to donate to those that are less fortunate, which highlights the type of family that she comes from and her willingness to give.

Competition

Over the course of her time at NC State, Brown has become a more and more prominent piece to the Wolfpack team. As an outside hitter, Brown has shouldered the load for the team in each of the past three seasons. In 2015, she led the squad with 320 kills before a breakout season in 2016 in which she set the rally-scoring era program record for kills in a single season with 489. That mark was third-most in the ACC and 34th nationally. Brown collected AVCA All-East Region Team honors for her stellar junior season and was also a first-team All-ACC selection. She also set the rally-scoring era program mark with 31 kills in the match versus Syracuse, the most by any player in the ACC last season. This season, she was tabbed a preseason All-ACC selection by the league’s head coaches and leads the team in kills.
