Classroom

In the classroom, Cox has been a four-year All-BIG EAST Academic Team member.  Cox boasted a 3.30 GPA as an undergrad on her way to earning her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management in May 2011. She is currently working towards her master’s degree in Sport Management, and achieved a 3.56 GPA in her first semester in the program. After graduate school, Cox hopes to pursue a career as an event manager or planner at a major sports venue or get involved with collegiate athletic administration as an academic advisor or work her way up to becoming an athletic director.

Character

During her time at St. John’s, Kacee has embraced the concept of a student-athlete. Both in the classroom and on the field, Cox has always strived for perfection. According to her head coach, Amy Kvilhaug “She is continually working to improve upon her already strong game, soaking in all the coaching she is given.  You will often find her teammates looking up to her for advice both on and off the field.  She has the wonderful personality of a “caretaker” and has mentored a great deal of people in her career at St. John’s. Without a doubt, Kacee has grown up significantly over the last five years learning from her mistakes along the way and always striving to be the best person, student and athlete she can be.  She has been a powerful, yet silent leader this year and continues to garner the admiration of her teammates and coaches through her actions.  It is truly a pleasure having her around as a member of the St. John’s Softball Program.”

Community

Cox has been a leader in the community, working with the Relay for Life, the Ronald McDonald House, the St. Nick Men’s Shelter, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and retirement and nursing facilities. Also, Cox and the team travel to a local children’s hospital each year around Halloween to trick or treat with the kids. Cox also participates in St. John’s University’s midnight runs.  The University pairs with the Midnight Run Organization to help feed and clothe the homeless. Student volunteers such as Cox make sandwiches and take the food along with warm clothing into Manhattan to distribute them to those in need. One of the biggest community service efforts of Cox and the softball team is their participation in the Friends of Jaclyn program, where the team adopts a child with a malignant brain tumor, giving the child the opportunity to see Division I softball up close and feel like they are part of the team.

Competition

On the field, Cox has been an all-around star for the Red Storm, leading the BIG EAST conference with a .404 batting average as a junior in 2010. She also was tops on the team and among the BIG EAST’s best with .649 slugging percentage (fifth), .417 on-base percentage (seventh), 61 hits (seventh), 46 RBI (fourth), nine home runs (tied for eighth) and 98 total bases (seventh).  She also led the Johnnies with 10 doubles and 250 putouts while playing in all 51 games.  She has posted nine home runs in each of her first three seasons, and is on pace to set the St. John’s school record.  Cox played in all 156 games through first three years before suffering a wrist injury that prevented her from playing in 2011.  She gained a medical redshirt, and is fully healthy to play the 2012 season and once again light it up at and behind the plate.  Cox holds several school records, including most walks in one game (4), most walks in one season (26) and is on pace to break school career records in home runs and runs batted in. Her 2010 season ranks as one of the best by any player in school history, with the third-best single-season batting average (.404), the sixth-most hits (61), the fourth-most home runs (9), the third-best slugging percentage (.649), the second-most doubles (46) and the second best on-base percentage (.471). Cox’s 384 putouts in 2009 rank third in single-season performances in St. John’s history. She was named to the 2010 All-BIG EAST Second Team and the 2010 NFCA Division I Great Lakes Region Second Team.
