Classroom

Kara is not only a standout on the field, but in the classroom as well. The senior health fitness major has earned a 3.98 GPA in her time at Central Michigan. She was named Academic All Mid-American Conference in 2011 and 2012, along with receiving CoSIDA Capital One All-District IV First Team honors in 2011.

Character

Community

Kara Dornbos has been extremely active in the community since coming to Central Michigan. She has aided in community events with her teammates at softball camps, the Red Cross canned food drive (2009, 2010, 2011), the 5K Miles for Medals Special Olympics Fundraiser (2010, 2011, 2012), the Miracle League (2012), and the Commission on Aging Valentines Packages/Veteran Care Package (2010, 2011). In addition to her activities with the team, Dornbos has volunteered on her own at several events. Some of her highlights include Operation Christmas Child (2010, 2011, 2012), Sunshine Farms Children’s Bible Camp, where she was a leader (2012), Kids Hope Prayer Partner (2012, 2013), and community leaf raking through Community Church (2012). Dornbos acted as an instructional coach at a summer baseball and softball character camp (2012) and is a member of the Central Michigan Physical Therapy Club.

Competition

Kara Dornbos will go down in the Central Michigan record books as one of the best pitchers in program history. She is the current record holder for single-season appearances (36) and is tied for fifth in career-saves (5). As a junior, Dornbos led the Chippewas with a 2.03 ERA in 183 innings. She pitched 18 complete games and seven shutouts. During the 2012 season, she went 33.2 innings without allowing a single walk. As a sophomore, Dornbos finished second in the Mid-American Conference with a 2.25 ERA in 143.1 innings. She has led Central Michigan every year in ERA. Dornbos was named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2011 and 2012, the MAC All-Tournament team in 2012, and MAC All-Freshman team in 2010. She is currently tenth in program history with 452 innings pitched and has a career ERA of 2.17.
