Kate Sheaks

Classroom

Finance major with a 3.394 GPA will graduate in June 2007. Sheaks has been named to DePaul’s Dean’s List on four occasions and was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star (2006). She has been a part of the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll (2005, 2004) and Named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (2004, 2005, 2006). Sheaks aspires to work for non-for-profits that deal with global environmental issues.

Character

Sheaks is the secretary of DePaul’s Captain’s Council – helping DePaul Students athletics achieve the full “student-athlete” experience through scholarship, leadership and community service. The Captain’s Council organizes service project to help further the mission of DePaul University and St. Vincent DePaul. She won DePaul’s Female Strength and Conditioning Award in 2006 which honors the female DePaul student-athlete who, exhibits leadership and dedication in the weight room. She has been the recipient of the DePaul Softball Coaches Award given to the player that the DePaul coaches feel are willing to make sacrifices for the time, a tireless worker, and leads by her work ethic.

Community

Has participated in Dream Halloween, a Halloween party for children with AIDS, the Chicago Fireworks Softball Clinic and the during the food drive for the homeless she helped make sandwiches for the Lincoln Park homeless shelter. She has also volunteered in the St. Vincent DePaul church soup kitchen and has spent time tutoring at “Young Life”. She has been a Pen Pal for the Boys and Girls Club and has volunteered at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer, Indiana where she assisted with patient check-in. She has done an internship with Geneva Trading, in market research. She also volunteers for “Cool Globes” raising money for Global Warming.

Competition

Four-Year Starter (Pitcher-2004, one game in 2006, Outfielder – 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, DP – 2004, 2005) was a member of the Time Warner Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team (2007) and the Conference USA All-Tournament Team (2005). Sheaks has helped the Blue Demons to the 2005 Women’s College World Series.
