Kayla Ostrom graduated summa cum laude in August 2016 with a degree in food systems management and is a member of Alpha Chi Society. In 2015 she was named ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was on the ASUN All-Academic Team for the third year in a row. Also in 2015 she was named to the CoSIDA District 3 All-Academic First Team for the second year in a row having also been named in 2014 and was a 2015 CoSIDA All-American Third Team selection.

Ostrom is a member of the ASUN 4.0 GPA Team and is in her fourth year of athletic eligibility working on her MBA at Lipscomb.

Character

Ostrom, a two-time Lipscomb volleyball captain, always puts others first. Coach Brandon Rosenthal calls her “the most modest person I have ever come across.” He adds that her nature and demeanor are truly remarkable and completely beyond her years. Ostrom always finds time for others, whether that is for her teammates, former teammates, general students, community outreach or family. She is truly selfless and embodies everything for which Lipscomb University stands.

Community

Despite her busy schedule of athletics and academics, Ostrom has found ways to be active in the community. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Student Athlete Advisory Council, serving as president. Ostrom is also a member of the Presidential Ambassador Council, a prestigious group of Lipscomb students who are active in various gatherings and meetings with Lipscomb President L. Randolph Lowry. She serves as a volunteer at both FarmOne and Green Fork Academy and as the chair of the Lippys, an end-of-the-school-year program that honors various student-athletes, teams, special events, coaches and administrators in a ceremony resembling most award shows. In 2015 she was part of the Chadasha Foundation mission trip to the Dominican Republic, and in 2014 Ostrom was a participant in a Lipscomb mission trip to Haiti.

Competition

Ostrom is a four-year starter at setter. She is currently the top active assists leader in the ASUN and is in the top 20 in career assists overall. This summer she was a member of the U.S. Collegiate National Team and participated in games in Indianapolis becoming the first Lipscomb player to earn this honor.

In 2016 she has been selected by conference coaches as the preseason ASUN Player of the Year and the preseason ASUN Setter of the Year. The 2015 season for Ostrom provided a number of honors. She was one of the captains of the ASUN regular season and tournament champion team and was also named ASUN Setter of the Year, to the ASUN All-Conference First Team, the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and AVCA South Region Honorable Mention. Also in 2015 she led the ASUN in assists, both overall and in conference matches, and also led in assists per set. In all of D-I in 2015, Ostrom was fifth in assists per set and seventh in total assists.
