As of the start of the 2020-21 academic year, Kaniho owns a cumulative GPA of 3.94 while majoring in health science.
In addition to being a semifinalist for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy, Kaniho’s past honors include 2019-20 CoSIDA Division I Academic All-America Football second team, 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Football Team, three-time Academic All-Mountain West (2017-19), and three-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award recipient (2018-20).
Character
Kaniho is among the undisputed leaders of the Boise State Football program. He is one of the rare Bronco players to have played as a true freshman and is entering his third season as a starter. The media enjoys speaking with him and Kaniho represents the program well at a public level. He is widely respected by his coaches and teammates.
Community
Kaniho’s community service involvement with Boise State includes visiting local middle schools and elementary schools to talk about healthy lifestyles, good sportsmanship, and the benefits of play. He participates with the program’s “Broncos vs. Bullying” anti-bullying campaign.
Competition
Kaniho has carved out a reputation as one of the top defenders in the Mountain West Conference. He was named to the 2019-20 All-Mountain West first team and is a two-time Mountain West Champion (2017-18 and 2019-20), as well as a 2017-18 Las Vegas Bowl Champion.
Kaniho has been named to the preseason watch lists for the Nagurski Trophy, Jim Thrope Award, and Lott IMPACT Trophy for the 2020-21 season.
