Kennedy Leonard is majoring in communication with minors in business and leadership. She earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention as a sophomore and junior.

Character

Leonard is the first in the gym and the last to leave. She always gives 110 percent and is there to pick up her teammates who need help. She is a leader and coach on the court, using her leadership to help motivate the rest of the team. Leonard makes it a point to support other teams at Colorado, attending other athletic events throughout the year. She is always able to relate to any person of any age. Leonard makes time for anybody, whether she knows them or not. She makes time to meet with fans and young kids after every game, embracing her status as a role model.

Community

Leonard is a member of FCA and has helped establish the Boulder Buffs student-athlete mental health awareness group and support group. She volunteers with Read with the Buffs and serves at the local food pantry. She helps out on team visits to the Children’s Hospital and volunteers with 6 Stones in her home state of Texas, helping build houses.

Competition

Leonard, a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection, enters her senior season second in CU history in assists (529) and 11th in steals (184). She surpassed 1,000 career points last season, starting the year with 1,383. Her career assists average (5.6) is the best in CU history, and her scoring average (14.7) is sixth-best. Leonard has twice been named to the Leiberman Award watch list, for the top point guard in women’s basketball. She was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection as a freshman and earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors.
