Classroom

Kevin Politz has a nearly spotless 3.93 grade-point average as a mathematical business major with a computer science minor. He has been on the dean’s list every semester and has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in three semesters. He was a first-team NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honoree in 2016, recognizing his accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom.

Character

A team captain, Politz is undoubtedly one of the leaders of the team. “Kevin is an extremely hard worker,” Head Coach Bobby Muuss said. “He leads by example and excels in both the classroom and on the field. He is well-respected by his teammates and coaches, and he brings the same disciplined mentality from the classroom to the field.”

Community

Politz is one of the most active members of the team in the community. He has twice participated with Habitat for Humanity and is one of the leaders of the team’s youth soccer clinics. Other community service events include D.E.S.K, through which students design desks for underprivileged elementary school students; H.O.P.E. (Help Our People Eat), where meals are prepared and delivered to those at risk for hunger; and the 3-2-1 Deacon Dash for Down Syndrome.

Competition

On the field, Politz is a four-year starter who has been in the lineup for more than 60 career games. A top recruit and member of the U.S. U-17 National Team, Politz has continued to improve and was named third-team All-ACC and to the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2016. TopDrawerSoccer named him to the 2017 preseason Best XI First Team, as well as the No. 9 overall player in the country. He has three goals and an assist as a center back in his career, but more importantly helped the Deacs to 14 shutouts en route to an NCAA runner-up finish in 2016.
