She has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll both years she was eligible and has been inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athletic Honor Society. Torre is an exceptional leader on the court, as well as in the classroom. Since joining the team her freshman year, Torre’s cumulative GPA is consistently among the top three GPAs on her team, if not the highest.

Character

Torre embodies our Cougar Volleyball Principles of Pride to the fullest. She prizes service over self in her leadership of others and support of the staff and program. Her integrity is unquestionably strong; without a doubt Torre does the little things right when no one else is watching. She is gracious, the first to thank the staff for a meal or gear, and she is never entitled or selfish. She holds her teammates and friends to the highest level of accountability in order to make those around her better. Most impressive is Torre’s personal sense of responsibility. She thinks ahead, thinks of others and takes special steps to be her best and reach her potential daily.

Community

Torre’s commitment to the community has been exceptional. She has volunteered with Special Olympics, Main Street Community Center, Meridian Village assisted living, elementary pen pal programs and more. Torre is a natural giver, who has spent a lifetime caring for others. She has been caring for her younger brother Mathew who has Down’s Syndrome. She is a twin and one of five siblings. Torre is kind and giving. She serves her family, her team and her university above herself. Her big heart will make her an exceptional educator in the future.

Competition

A preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, Kristen Torre is coming off her best season as a Cougar with 3.22 kills per set and a .340 hitting percentage. She was named All-Conference in 2014. Her .340 hitting percentage is the best of the Division I era for the Cougars and the second best in a single season in program history. Torre is poised to become the ninth player in school history to pass the 1,000-kill mark in a collegiate career. She also figures to be among the top 10 all-time in blocks and service aces. Her 29 kills at Jacksonville State last season was the third most kills recorded in a single match in program history. She led the Cougars in their first-ever OVC Tournament during the 2013 season, helping SIUE to the championship match.
