George Washington midfielder Kristi Abbate is majoring in finance and held a 3.47 GPA through her junior year. She has been named to the A-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and George Washington University’s Athletics Academic Dean’s List in every semester of her career. Abbate is also a member of Delta Sigma Pi, which is a professional business fraternity. She has spent each collegiate summer participating in an internship and most recently completed an internship with Merrill Lynch. Abbate has already landed a job after graduation with PricewaterhouseCoopers as a management consultant in their public sector practice that she will begin in August of 2016.

Character

Abbate has started every game of her career thus far and has been a team leader since her freshman year. A participant in George Washington’s Student-Athlete Leadership Academy, Abbate will undergo the highest level of training as a Legacy Leader. With a strong commitment to hard work on the field, in the classroom and in the community, Abbate has served as a role model for her teammates.

Community

Abbate has displayed a strong desire to serve her community throughout college. As a sophomore, Abbate logged 23.5 hours of service, volunteering many of her hours with College for Every Student. During the 2014-15 year, she posted 33.5 hours of service, largely with Habitat for Humanity. With a job already lined up after graduation, Abbate plans on dedicating even more time to Habitat for Humanity during her senior year. She will also be teaching financial literacy classes to middle school and high school students throughout the winter and spring of her senior year.

Competition

Abbate has been a key component for the Colonials in every year of her career. She has started all 55 games GW has played since she arrived on campus. During her career, Abbate has taken 87 shots, netted six goals and tallied eight assists. In 2012, Abbate was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team and has earned All-Conference Second Team honors during her sophomore and junior seasons. Abbate has helped GW qualify for the A-10 Championship in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2002.
