Classroom

Kyle holds a 3.434 in business administration and is expected to graduate in May 2013.  He has been a FSU Dean’s Academic Award honoree and was a 2007 graduate of Lindsay (Ontario) Collegiate and Vocational Institute.  He is one of the team leaders in the classroom and an active participant in the campus community.

Character

Kyle was voted as team captain this season and is a first-class individual as noted by teammates and coaches.  He has spent time working summer camps with youth.  He is regarded as one of team leaders on and off the ice, is a genuine “people” person and one of finest human beings you’ll meet.  He came into college as a walk-on player who earned a scholarship and is now serving as team captain. He took part in numerous interview and media requests during the school’s championship run last season and never hesitated once.

Community

He has served as the team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Representative and is active in several community projects with the team, including clean up of city Playscape area for kids.  He has taken part in local middle school activity nights and worked with the “Big Event”, a citywide cleanup initiative.  Kyle also played an active role in developing student-athlete support at various athletics events and enjoys working with youth and those who need assistance.

Competition

Kyle led the team to the national championship game last season.  He has played in 125 career games to date with 41 goals and 29 assists for 70 total points.  Last season, he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2012 Frozen Four as the Bulldogs advanced to the national championship game. Currently, he leads the team in goals and points this season.  He is among the conference and national leaders in scoring to date.  Kyle played in 43 contests as a junior in 2011-12 and totaled 30 points with 19 goals and 11 assists to rank third on CCHA Championship squad.  He was selected 20th overall in the USHL Futures Draft prior to college and was named to the Under-17 Hockey Program of Excellence squad during junior ranks. He is a four-year letter-winner and tabbed as a preseason All-CCHA honoree.  He was a NAHL North All-Star as a junior player and led his junior hockey team in scoring.  Kyle is one of team’s most competitive individuals.

This season, Kyle has a squad-best 13 goals with seven assists for a team-high 20 points.  He also has seven power-play goals, which ranks tied for second in the country and two game-winning goals.  He was chosen as one of the nominees for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award given to college hockey’s top player and has claimed CCHA Player of the Week accolades this season.
