Classroom
Sims maintains a 4.0 GPA, majoring in biology-physiology with a minor in chemistry. She is a two-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection. She also earned academic All-Big West honors as a sophomore and junior. She was Long Beach State’s 2008-09 Big West Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a member of the Golden Key International Honors Society and President’s Honor Roll (2006-present). She earned the Who’s Who in America’s Universities CSULB Award and NCAA Student-Athlete National Conference Participant Award in 2008. Her post-college goals include attending medical school and volunteering for Doctors Without Borders.
Character
Sims has been a team captain as a junior and senior. She leads by example both on and off the court, She serves as the co-President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Community
She has volunteered off campus with St. Mary’s Medical Center Clinical Care Extender Hospital (over 250 hours) and with Southern California Special Olympics. She spearheaded the 2009 Big West Charity Coin Drive for Long Beach Miller Children’s Hospital and is also involved on campus, serving as a Heads Up Freshmen Advising Mentor and President Ambassador. She has conducted research in the CSULB Biological Sciences Department in mammalian physiology.
Competition
Sims garnered 2008-09 All-Big West honorable mention recognition and led the conference in 3-point accuracy at 38.2 percent as a sophomore, while ranking among the top 10 as a junior (.363). She earned Big West player of the week honors after posting back-to-back 20-point performances. Sims enters her senior season ranked fourth in school history in 3-point field goals made (98) and sixth in 3-point field goals attempted (271).
