Lexi Knief holds a 3.4 grade-point average as a broadcast journalism major and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a 2015 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. Knief earned a 4.0 grade-point average in the 2014 academic year. She served as an intern for Louisville Slugger in event and sales marketing and also held an internship at DialAmerica in Outbound Sales where she was the top sales representative for Sirius Satellite Radio for three consecutive months, increasing sales by $400 every day that she worked there.

Character

Knief is the head softball representative for Uplifting Athletes, organizing meetings with 37-plus leaders throughout the Penn State campus. She set up special events and fund-raised for campaigns to raise awareness for rare diseases. Knief also worked to evaluate the rare diseases as a national priority through outreach, research and education. She is a member of Softball Council, which was selected by the softball coaches, and she attends weekly meetings with the coaching staff. Knief also is a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Board, which helped raise $2,000 through Penn State Softball’s annual Home Run Derby and generated and implemented ideas to increase student-athlete participation in the local community.

Community

Knief served as a camp counselor for Penn State softball, Ultimate Sports America and the Ramsey Soccer Association where she taught leadership and game skills to camp members. Knief worked at the local food bank on a monthly basis in 2014-15 and helped rake leaves for the people around the State College area. Finally, Knief helped local middle school softball players learn more about the game while teaching them new skills for the sport of softball.

Competition

Knief set the Nittany Lion single-season record in 2015 for hits with 75. As a junior she posted a .417 batting average (75 for 180), which ranks third in Penn State single-season laurels. Knief had 26 multi-hit games in 2015, including six games with three or more hits. She also posted 16 games with an extra base hit in 2015. For her efforts, she earned Offensive Player of the Year and MVP accolades for Penn State. In her three seasons, Knief carried a .364 career batting average, which ranked third in PSU laurels with 150 hits, including 22 double and 10 triples. She also holds a .473 slugging percentage and a .440 on-base percentage. Defensively, Knief has a .955 fielding percentage in the outfield. She was named to the NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team in 2015 and is two-time All-Big Ten Second Team selection.
