Nelson is majoring in exercise science and sports a 3.71 grade-point average. Her ultimate goal is to become a strength and conditioning coach after pursing a career playing professional basketball.

Nelson served as a team captain as a junior last season, and she will continue to inhabit the role this year. She is the first player to enter the gym before practice and the last to leave. The team looks to her work ethic and commitment as ideals.

Nelson has participated in a number of community service events in both the Cheney and Spokane communities. Nelson has been stellar since joining the Eagles prior to the 2012-13 season, twice earning First-Team All-Big Sky honors. Her career scoring average of 14.9 points per game ranks third all-time, and she needs just 75 points to become the 16th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. One of the best long-range shooters in program history, she ranks first all-time with a three-point percentage of .407 and has made 134 career triples in 62 games. Last season, she averaged a team-best 15.9 points per game and made 74 three-pointers, falling two shy of the single-season record.
