Classroom

Whorton is a Rhodes Scholar candidate, compiling a 4.0 grade point average with a double major of education and English. She is a two-time first team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete in women’s basketball and was named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American District VII team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Character

After injuries claimed as many as three starters, Whorton’s leadership helped rally the underdog and undermanned Drake women’s basketball team to a Cinderella finish in 2006-07. The Bulldogs won four games in four days to capture the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship, earning the team a berth in the NCAA tournament where it faced No. 1 seed and eventual national champion Tennessee. For her efforts, Whorton was named the outstanding player in the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Community

Whorton is active in Drake’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter.

Competition

Whorton is a three-year starter who was named the outstanding player in the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after averaging 17.0 points in four games, while making 15 three-point baskets. She ranks 17th in career scoring at Drake with 1,101 points and is fourth on the Drake career three-point basket list at 195.
