Classroom

Schuss is a two-time Academic All-ECAC, an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete. As a physical education major, he plans to pursue a career as a teacher in the area he grew up in following graduation as well as continue his lacrosse career professionally.

Character

Schuss was voted to serve as a co-captain by his teammates for the 2013 season. As both a sophomore and junior his teammates selected him to represent his class on the squad’s Leadership Council. Schuss, who grew up in the Vancouver, British Columbia, area, is the first person in his family to go to college. Continuing education post high school was something many kids in his area dreamed of pursuing, but he worked hard to put himself in position to earn an opportunity and followed through. As he has said, going to college was a great opportunity to further his education and make his family proud, exceeding the expectations of many in his hometown area.

Community

On a team that places a great deal of importance on community service, Schuss is among the leaders in volunteer hours each season. He has spent time working with organizations ranging from Lacrosse the Nations, to Ronald McDonald House and the WWII Honor Flight. Schuss has volunteered at an elementary school, the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and the Heinzerling Foundation with mentally ill patients among others. He has also spent time with JJ Snider, the Buckeyes’ teammate through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.

Competition

Schuss ranks fourth among all 2013 NCAA seniors with 165 career points and a career 3.67 points per game average. He is a two-time USILA All-American, earning third team honors in 2012 and honorable mention accolades in 2011, the first Ohio State freshman to be named an All-American. Schuss was the 2012 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and the 2011 ECAC Rookie of the Year, as well as is a three-time First Team All-ECAC selection. He has led the Buckeyes in scoring each of his three years with the squad and is a three-time team Offensive MVP. Schuss enters his senior year fourth in Ohio State history with 165 points, ranking fifth (tied) with 102 goals, and has started all 45 games he has played for the Scarlet and Gray. Schuss was drafted by the Ohio Machine in the second round of the 2013 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft (No. 11 overall) and was the second overall pick in the Western Lacrosse Association draft by the Western Lacrosse Association New Westminster Salmonbellies.
