Ocejo has been superior in the classroom during his career at Stetson.  He has been named Atlantic Sun All-Academic in each of his first three seasons, while adding Conference Scholar honors and a sport on the inaugural A-Sun All-Academic Team this past season.  Holding a 3.8 cumulative GPA and a 4.0 GPA within his Finance major, Ocejo earned a number of academic accolades as a junior.  He was named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District, NSCAA First Team All-Region Scholar, and NSCAA Third Team All-America Scholar in 2011.  Making the Dean’s List each of his first three years at Stetson, Ocejo will start a business internship during his senior campaign.  He is a member of the Roland George Investments Program at the University, which is a student-directed initiative allowing the participants to get hands on experience.  This year he will be representing the program in the global CFA competition, which involves writing stock recommendations, and competing in the national and global finals.

Character

Ocejo has always been in the role of leader among his peers.  As a captain for the Hatters in 2012 he will only increase the amount of leading he has already done with the squad.  Ocejo’s time at Stetson would not have been as easy for the normal student-athlete.  Ocejo has had to overcome being a long way from home since he was 17 years of age.  Born and raised in Mexico City, Ocejo now only gets to see his family two or three times per year due to all of his athletic and academic commitments.  It has been difficult for him at times, being away from family for so long, but he doesn’t regret the decision to achieve his dreams of playing competitive soccer.

Community

Ocejo spends much of his free time helping others.  Every time he returns to his home in Mexico, he volunteers at a nursing home.  He goes there to talk to the residents, providing companionship to the elderly.  He walks with them around the block, and listens to whatever stories they have on their minds.  While in Florida, playing at Stetson, Ocejo volunteers as a coach for the younger players of the area.  Teaching the kids, usually between six and eight years old, Ocejo knows he is doing a great service to the soccer players of the future.

Competition

Ocejo had a breakout season in 2011 and will lead Stetson as a senior in 2012. Controlling the Hatter defense, Ocejo was named Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference.  In addition to his stellar defending, Ocejo added two goals and three assists out of the back.  He was named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week once and NSCAA All-Region Third Team.  Ocejo anchored a back line that recorded six shutouts during Stetson’s 10-5-4 season.
