Classroom

Oklahoma State University forward/midfielder Madison Mercado graduated with a degree in sports management in May 2015, finishing with a 3.677 grade-point average. She is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in health and human performance. A three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, Mercado has been named to the OSU President’s Honor Roll three times and is a four-time member of the Dean’s Honor Roll. Adding to the long list of achievements, Mercado has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll seven times, has earned the OSU Academic Achievement Award four times and is a two-time recipient of the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award.

Character

Mercado’s character shines through in her production on and off the field. She enters her senior season already with an undergraduate degree and working on her master’s. She has maintained the focus to record outstanding grades and performances on the field, setting a strong example for her teammates along the way.

Community

Mercado is heavily involved in the Stillwater community as a volunteer. Among the agencies she has served are Read Across America, Humane Society, Mobile Meals, Race for the Cure and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Along with those organizations, Mercado has volunteered her time to prepare Thanksgiving baskets for the needy and served as an Adopt-an-Angel Tree volunteer. During breaks from OSU, she has also served as a volunteer with the girls’ basketball team at her high school alma mater in Sapulpa, Okla. Mercado has also served as an ambassador for the Nike N7 Youth Movement, which involves Native Americans from all around Oklahoma and encourages them to be active members of their tribe through exercise and sports.

Competition

Mercado is a two-time All-Big 12 Conference performer and has showed her offensive versatility as both a forward and midfielder. She enters her senior season with 13 career goals and 10 career assists in 60 games, and she was named to the 2015 Preseason All-Big 12 team as a forward. Mercado has ranked second on OSU in scoring in each of her first three collegiate seasons, and she finished second in the Big 12 with seven assists in 2013.
