Senior forward Maik Kotsar holds a strong GPA of 3.280 as a finance major and integrated information technology minor at South Carolina. Kotsar has been named to the AD Honor Roll (3.0 and above) in four semesters and has earned Dean’s List accolades (3.5-3.99) in three semesters. Additionally, he has earned SEC Academic Honor Roll honors each year of his career and has been named to the NABC Honors Court during his time at South Carolina.

Character

Kotsar is an outstanding leader on and off the court for his teammates and others. He is also a teacher on the court for his younger teammates, helping them adjust to college basketball while learning South Carolina’s style of play.  Kotsar has been selected the last two seasons to represent his team at SEC Media Day.

Community

Kotsar has been very active in the community during his time at South Carolina.  He has spent time at basketball clinics for children, visited the Palmetto Children’s Hospital and the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia and also the Epworth Children’s Home.  He has volunteered with his teammates during the squad’s summer community service campaign, the 8K Campaign, at Harvest Hope Food Bank, at the Ronald McDonald House, the YMCA, at Sowing Seeds and with Habitat for Humanity.

Competition

Kotsar is a four-year starter for the Gamecocks and a member of Carolina’s historic 2017 Final Four team, a squad that also set the school record for victories in a season. He has 680 points thus far in his career and is just shy of 500 rebounds. He averaged 5.8 points per game during his rookie season while posting nine double-figure scoring performances, including a 12-point effort in Carolina’s Elite Eight win over Florida. As a sophomore, he averaged 8.0 points per outing, with 11 double-figure scoring games. As a junior, Kotsar recorded five double-figure scoring games, including a career high 25-point performance as the Gamecocks upset No. 14 Mississippi State in SEC action.
