Competition
In 2012 alone, Mark earned NCBWA Pitcher of the Year, as well as first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA, second team All-American by Baseball America, first team All-Pac-12, and NCAA Stanford Regional Most Outstanding Player. He went on to be a 2012 Golden Spikes Award finalist and a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist. Heading into the 2013 season, Appel has been named 2013 preseason first team All-American by Perfect Game, Louisville Slugger, NCBWA and Baseball America.
